Pricing for Commission Artwork

Last Updated: [October 22, 2025]

Thank you for visiting Barb’s Original Artwork! Ms. Barb is excited to help you create a custom piece of art that’s uniquely yours. Please review the pricing information below to explore the options for bringing your vision to life.

Pricing Formulas

Ms. Barb uses two time-honored formulas as guidelines for pricing commissioned artwork:

  1. Time & Materials Formula:
(Hourly Rate × Hours Worked) + Cost of Materials

  2. Size & Complexity Formula:
(Height × Width) × Price per Square Inch (based on artistic variables)

These formulas address the key factors that influence the creation of custom artwork. Because each commissioned artwork is unique, pricing varies: Commissioned artwork is also negotiable depending on the scope and artistic requirements.

Note: These pricing guidelines apply to private individuals, sole proprietorships, and small businesses with 25 or fewer employees. Pricing for larger businesses and corporate commissions is available upon request.

Deposits

  1. A non-refundable deposit equal to one hour of work at the current hourly rate is required for small commissioned projects.

  2. For medium and large artworks, a 50% deposit (based on the Size & Complexity formula) is required before work begins.

Choose the Pricing Formula That Works for You

Smaller, less complex pieces created in simpler mediums are generally priced using the Time & Materials formula.
Larger, more detailed pieces involving intricate artistic methods are typically priced using the Size & Complexity formula.

1. Time & Materials Formula

Pricing is based on two components:

     A. Time
Current Hourly Rate: $65.00 per hour (one-hour minimum)

     B. Materials
The final invoice includes an itemized list of materials purchased for the project.

2. Size & Complexity Formula

Artwork is priced per square inch, based on its size and complexity.

    A. Size

Clients choose the size of custom artwork using U.S. standard units of measurement.

   Suggested Drawing Sizes

  • Small: 4x6, 5x7, 8×10
