Hello Everyone!
Welcome to my bio page! Please allow me to take this opportunity to provide you with a brief background on who I am as an artist, what I do, and what I have to offer you.
About the Artist — Ms. Barb
A Lifelong Passion for Art
From the moment I could hold a pencil, art has been the language of my soul. My father often said I was born with one in hand — and he wasn’t far off. Though I’ve received formal instruction, my abilities are largely God-given and honed through self-teaching. I view my artistic gift as a blessing from YHWH, the Creator, and every piece I create reflects gratitude for that divine inspiration.
For many years, my creative spirit waited patiently behind the scenes while I built a career in public schools to support my family. Now that I have retired from that chapter, I’ve fully embraced the artist I was always meant to be. Today, I’m living my dream — creating original works that bring beauty, faith, and warmth into homes and businesses.
Roots and Inspiration
I was born and raised in Monticello, Arkansas, a small town in the heart of the Bible Belt. My Southern upbringing instilled in me traditional values, a strong work ethic, and deep faith — all of which influence my art. My work often explores themes of faith, home, heritage, and human connection, reflecting the sincerity and simplicity of my roots.
Whether I’m painting a peaceful rural landscape, a family portrait, or a work of faith, I strive to capture the emotional essence behind every subject. My goal is to create art that feels personal, uplifting, and timeless — pieces that don’t just decorate a space but tell a story and touch the heart.
The Artist’s Journey
My creative path has been lifelong rather than linear. As a young student, I was known for my drawings and sculptures long before art classes were available. That early recognition nurtured my confidence and passion for visual storytelling.
After college studies in graphic design and art education, I worked in various creative and professional roles — from advertising artist to public-school art teacher to lead secretary — always finding ways to keep art at the center of my life. These diverse experiences taught me that art is not just about technique, but about connecting with people, capturing emotion, and honoring each person’s story.
Today and Tomorrow
Now based in Battle Creek, Michigan, I operate a freelance art studio where I create custom, commissioned works for both private collectors and commercial clients. Whether it’s a portrait that preserves family legacy, a faith-based piece that inspires reflection, or a large-scale artwork designed to enrich a business environment, each creation is approached with care, craftsmanship, and heart.
I take pride in collaborating closely with clients — listening to their vision, exploring colors and themes, and ensuring the finished piece perfectly complements its space. Every commission is a partnership built on creativity, trust, and mutual inspiration.
Art with Purpose and Heart
I often draw encouragement from the story of Grandma Moses, the self-taught American folk artist who began painting seriously at seventy-eight. Like her, I believe it’s never too late to follow your life’s calling. My work is living proof that passion, purpose, and perseverance can bloom at any age.
If you’re seeking art that reflects faith, evokes emotion, and feels personal, I would be honored to create something uniquely yours — a piece designed to uplift your home, office, or community space.
